4. Re: Food poisoning in Sharm. The best way to not get sick (which can happen) is to stay in shade mid day, drink lots of water to stay hydrated and be sensible with what you eat. Remember they may use different oils etc when preparing food which can upset your stomach if you haven’t used these at home.

Sharm is a purpose built holiday area surrounded by a high security perimeter fence. The Egyptian government prioritises the protection of tourists but there is no doubt Sharm would be a tempting target for terrorists. In terns of individual safety, mugging etc, there is no problem.

5. Re: trip from cairo to sharm el sheikh. No, none of it is safe to someone who doesn't understand driving in Egypt. There are speed humps (more like small hills) at random which will break your neck if you go over them too fast, numerous checkpoints and army stops.
